The Evolution of the Pussycat Dolls

The Pussycat Dolls began their start as a burlesque/cabert group, or as my fave performer Ophelia Kitty would say, they were Caburlesque. They would wear scantily clad costumes, lingerie mostly, and sing and dance in a highly stylized form of dance that was a combination of tease and some Bob Fosse Broadway.

The Pussycat Dolls also had some pretty famous members like Carmen Elektra, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Christina Applegate and Charlize Theron. The Pussycat Dolls also had Charlie's Angels dance with them.

And before ya' knew it, they were a singing group, fronted by former Eden's Crush member, Nicole Scherzinger.

Immediately noticed was the huge number of girls in the singing group. Most of which do not sing. For those note familiar with PCD as a singing AND dance group, confusion arose as to what the other non-singing dolls were used for. Nicole sang lead, original member Carmit and youngest member Melody sang lead back-up, while the other girls sang back up and danced.

So what does creator Robin Antin do to remedy this situation? She creates a reality show with McG to find a new member. I made the edit featured below, holla

The winner, Asia, departed from the group after performing with Pussycat Dolls twice. I think she models now. A little while after that, original Pussycat Dolls member Carmit had something to announce: She was leaving too. Instead of finding a new member, The Pussycat Dolls became a quintet, with Nicole still front and center. Of course no one really noticed and cared.

And then this song credited as "Nicole Sherzinger and The Pussycat Dolls" created a rift in the group. With Carmit gone, I expected Melody to be the next to leave. In previous interviews she was very vocal about how she knew this gig with PCD would not last forever. Surprisingly, she wasn't the next to leave.

Jessica's experience caused even more speculation, despite not being front page news.

In an interview with Nicole, she announced the inevitable.

And now we meet the newest line-up of The Pussycat Dolls.
Nicole is still front and center no doubt, and I really don't think anyone will care. The departure has shocked no one and fans that know their origins as a burlesque/ cabaret group won't really give a rats ass. It seems that their money maker is Nicole and their dream team of music producers, writers, etc.

"They're a brand, not a band."
